Matt Raymond moved to Logan Circle in 2003 and has lived in the Washington metropolitan area since 1995. He was first elected to ANC single member district 2F04 in 2004 and served a partial term before briefly pursuing a job opportunity elsewhere in 2005. He returned to Logan Circle and was elected in 2008 to a second term and to a third term in January 2011.
Raymond is a public-relations consultant and was formerly the director of communications at the Library of Congress. He previously served as senior advisor for communication at UNICEF, where he was the chief speechwriter and senior aide to the executive director. Prior to his position at UNICEF, he was the director of speechwriting at the U.S. Department of Agriculture and served temporarily as acting director of communications. He previously worked for eight years in a variety of senior positions in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
Raymond began his career in television news. He received a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and was selected outstanding broadcast journalism student among his graduating class.
